Why prices differ on this route
Berlin–Munich runs across two separately priced corridors: the high-speed line Berlin–Erfurt–Nuremberg and the classic line Nuremberg–Ingolstadt–Munich. The Sparpreis depends on the quota left on the individual train, section by section. Once the cheap Sparpreis is gone on the first section, the total price jumps, even if it is still available on the second.
With a split at Nuremberg, Erfurt or Leipzig you buy the journey as two Sparpreis tickets, both ordinary and tied to the train. You stay on the same train.
Tips for this route
- The occasional Sprinter is faster than the standard ICE. If you have an hour to spare, compare both trains in the search.
- Almost every train calls at Nuremberg, so on most connections the journey can be split into two tickets there.
- The Deutschlandticket does not realistically cover Berlin–Munich. The regional itinerary takes over 10 hours with four changes.
